I Want YOU to Have This Money! The federal assistance programs on this page provide vocational and postsecondary educational scholarships and grants to K-12 students, undergraduate and postgraduate college students, educators, colleges, universities and faculty.

A host of federal agencies (including the Department of Education, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Defense) provide research grants, scholarships, fellowships, internships, student exchanges, and study abroad programs to train in areas of national need.

$1,500 scholarship to support postsecondary education to outstanding high school seniors who show promise of continued academic achievement.

$6,650 grants to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering.

$6,510 scholarships to young Americans to pursue public service careers.

$5,000 grants to young Americans to pursue careers related to the environment, and for American and Alaska Natives to pursue careers in health care and tribal public policy.

Up to $5,000 in grants for full-time students with substantial financial need who are enrolled at postsecondary institutions.

Loans directly from the Federal government to vocational, undergraduate, and graduate postsecondary school students and their parents.

$146,000 grants to provide fellowships through graduate academic departments, programs, and units of institutions of higher education to graduate students of superior ability.

Up to $60,000 in scholarships to promote the exchange of views between scholars and decision makers.

$3,000 per year in scholarships to become a merchant marine officer in State Marine schools.

Training and Federal employment for graduate students of exceptional potential who are interested in a career in Public Policies and Programs.

$1,681 low interest loans to needy postsecondary students for educational expenses.

$2,686 grants to assist students who are involved in migrant and other seasonal farm work to obtain the equivalent of a secondary school diploma.

$5,952 scholarships to students who are involved in migrant and other seasonal farmwork, and are enrolled in the first academic year at an institution of higher education on a full-time basis.

$167,466 grants to support high quality service learning projects that engage students in meeting community needs.

Up to $250,000 in grants to encourage and support research, study, and labor designed to produce new discoveries in all fields of endeavor for the benefit of mankind.

Abroad and Exchange Programs

Up to $35,000 in grants to U.S. citizens for educational exchanges in other countries.

Up to $80,000 in grants to U.S. educational professionals for educational exchanges in other countries.

$5,500 grants to individuals to improve the teaching and learning of English around the globe through short-term projects.

$4,000 scholarship to U.S. undergraduates to pursue study abroad.

$27,000 grants to provide opportunities for graduate students to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign language and area studies with the exception of Western Europe.

Medical Studies

$157,698 grants to medical schools to promote the post-graduate education of physicians in preventive medicine.

$15,151 scholarships to provide traineeships for licensed registered nurses enrolled as full-time students beyond the twelfth month of study in a master's nurse anesthesia program.

Up to $69,500 in grants to help repay health education loans in return for service to particular populations.

$209,071 in grants to provide or improve access to health care in rural areas.

Up to $1,250,000 in education loans as an incentive for health professionals to work in areas of reproductive research.

$22,331 grant to recruit and retain health professionals performing research in fields required by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

$1,065 scholarship to assure an adequate supply of primary care physicians, certified nurse midwives, certified family nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

$59,400 grant to increase educational opportunities for students in need of financial by providing long-term, low-interest loans.

$1,920 scholarships to assist students in need of financial assistance to study nursing by providing long-term, low-interest loans.

$71,642 in grants to support traineeships for students in graduate educational programs at accredited schools of public health.

$18,000 grant to address the serious shortage of nurses at health facilities in certain areas of the United States.

$12,317 grant to attract and retain disadvantaged health professions faculty members for accredited health professions schools of medicine, nursing, osteopathic medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, podiatric medicine, optometry, veterinary medicine, public health, allied health or graduate programs in behavioral and mental health practice for at least two years.

Money paid to institutions on behalf of students

The Federal Government allocates a certain amount of money to educational institutions and organizations in order to provide the following opportunities for students. Students will need to apply directly to the institutions receiving the funds.

Up to $3,000,000 in grants to States to provide education awards for qualified postsecondary education expenses in exchange for part-time or full-time service.

Up to $500,000 in grants to State and local governments to build the ethic of service among Americans of all ages and backgrounds.

Up to $1,500,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations to establish an Internship Program which will provide unique opportunities for cooperative study, research, and development in the environmental arena.

$301,024 grants to colleges and universities to promote training activities which foster future employment in the the Federal Government.

Up to $200,000 in grants to accredited educational institutions to provide Americans with an understanding of less commonly taught languages and cultures.

Up to $500,000 in grants to educational institutions to provide foreign language training to Americans.

$395,000 grants to educational institutions to provide information on financial and academic assistance available for qualified adults desiring to pursue a program of postsecondary education.

$2,500 scholarships to provide stipends and expenses for summer interns at watershed organizations.

Up to $225,000 in grants to eligible wildlife agencies for the enhancement of hunter, bow, and archery education programs.

$229,000 to provide grants for institutions of higher education to prepare low-income, first-generation college students.

$235,000 grants to educational institutions to provide supportive services to disadvantaged college students.

$295,000 in grants to educational institutions to identify disadvantaged youths with potential for postsecondary education.

$251,000 in grants to educational institutions to help generate the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school among low-income and first-generation college students and veterans.

$321,000 grants to provide financial assistance to State and local educational agencies to stimulate activities designed to meet the special educational needs of gifted and talented students.

$4,317,000 in grants to State educational agencies to help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy and improve the educational opportunities of low-income families.

Project grants to improve the educational opportunities of migrant families through family literacy programs.

$476,400 in grants to State correctional agencies to assist incarcerated individuals to achieve functional literacy.

$308,000 in grants to State education entities to promote improved career and education decision making by individuals.

Up to $175,000 in grants to ensure that children with limited English proficiency will meet the same standards and achievements that all children are expected to meet.
