PCPFS
has no grant making authority; the Council has no funds available
to offer any type of financial assistance. The objectives of the
PCPFS are confined to promotion of physical activity and fitness
for Americans of all ages by encouraging development, implementation
and improvement of physical activity, fitness and sports programs.
These objectives are accomplished by providing consultation and
technical assistance, general publications and a web site, and by
means of program evaluation and guidance to schools, government
agencies, employee organizations, industrial organizations, recreation
and park departments, youth organizations and others who wish to
introduce or improve physical activity and fitness or sports programs.

AND USE RESTRICTIONS:
The
Council does not have grant-making authority; the Council has no
funds available, to offer any type of financial assistance. Activities
are largely limited to public information, synthesis of latest research
and other information about physical activity/fitness and sports
in lay terms. The Council provides advice and counsel to government
agencies, educators, private organizations, and the private sector
on how to promote physical activity/fitness and sports. It also
provides advisory services to government, non-profit and educational
organizations and institutions and the private sector on development,
implementation and promotion of physical activity and fitness programs
in diverse communities.

The PCPFS continues to serve as a catalyst for the Department and
nationally to promote, encourage, and motivate the development of
physical activity/fitness and sports participation for all ages
and to publicize the health benefits of regular physical activity
and a healthy, fitness-oriented lifestyle. More than five million
Americans participate in PCPFS programs each year (the President's
Challenge Physical Activity and Fitness Awards Program; the Presidential
Sports Award). Recent accomplishments include: development of a
user friendly web site about physical activity/fitness and sports
with links to other government and organizational resources; availability
of certain program materials in Spanish; establishment of partnerships
with other health/fitness and sports organizations (i.e., Special
Olympics; American Academy of Pediatrics; the American Alliance
for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance; National
Recreation and Park Association).
