OBJECTIVES: Need help understanding this page?
To provide general and specialized reference, bibliographic and online services based on the Library's holdings in science, technology and business. In science and technology, these include over 3.8 million scientific, technical, and medical books, 61,500 serial titles, plus more than 5 million technical reports and standards. In business, there are over 1 million books and 74,000 serial titles. More than 45 subscription databases for science and business are also available.

USES AND USE RESTRICTIONS:

Research and reader services are provided to users in person, by telephone, by correspondence and electronically. Further reference assistance is provided through bibilographic guides and research reports prepared by division reference librarians.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant Eligibility:   Use of the Library is free and admission to its reading rooms is permitted with a reader registration card issued by the Library. Reference services for those working in the fields of science, technology, or business are available to organizations and agencies, or to individuals over high school age.

Beneficiary Eligibility:   Not applicable.

Credentials/Documentation:   All persons requiring access to any of the reading rooms, whether or not they are requesting items from the collections, must register and acquire a Library-issued user card.

PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
In fiscal year 2002, Science, Technology and Business staff compiled finding aids and performed direct reference services in person, by correspondence, by electronic mail, and by telephone. The staff also prepared exhibits, public lectures, and symposia. Approximately 67,148 direct reference services were provided.
