The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) administer the following programs to promote development and enhancement of aerospace research, education and continuing research in specific areas of aviation related technology.

12.640 Integrated Helicopter Design Tools - Objective: To stimulate innovative approaches and pursue goals to invest in research and development of technologies that are important to both defense and commercial application.

20.100 Aviation Education - Objective:
  1. To create public awareness about the need to promote the development and enhancement of education in aviation.

  2. To create "career awareness" in aviation at the elementary and secondary educational levels.

  3. To aid educators by providing aviation information they can readily use in their normal classroom curriculum or in special classroom projects

  4. To prepare qualified individuals to meet the future need of aviation and help educators identify the learning needs of our society in this rapidly changing technological era. Click here for more information

20.106 Airport Improvement Program - Objective: To assist sponsors, owners, or operators of public-use airports to develop a nationwide system of airports adequate to meet the needs of civil aeronautics. Click here for more information

20.107 Airway Science - Objective: To assist recognized colleges and universities with the need for facilities and equipment for Airway Science (AWS) curriculum students.

20.108 Aviation Research Grants - Objective: To encourage and support innovative research and development in areas of benefit to the long-term growth of civil aviation.

20.109 Air Transportation Centers of Excellence - Objective: To conduct long term continuing research in specific areas of aviation related technology, including:
  1. Research concerning catastrophic failure of aircraft.

  2. Airspace, airport planning, and design.

  3. Airport capacity enhancement techniques.

  4. Human performance in the air transportation environment

  5. Aviation safety and security.

  6. The supply of trained air transportation personnel including pilots and mechanics.

20.901 Payments for Essential Air Services - Objective: To ensure that air transportation is provided to eligible communities by subsidizing air carriers when services are needed. Click here for more information

43.001 Aerospace Education Services Program - Objective: NASA's Aerospace Education Services Program (AESP) is a specialized group of educators who provide increased instruction in mathematics, science, and technology. AESP provides workshops for K-12 teachers to develop inovative education techniques that directly impacts the teaching and learning of science, mathematics, and technology in existing classrooms. AESP Specialists support and complement teacher training by visiting in individual classrooms to model and assist teachers to implement the strategies demonstrated in teacher workshops. 43.002 Technology Transfer - Objective: To insure that technologies resulting from Government-sponsored civilian aerospace research and development are made available to the widest extent practicable and appropriate for the Nation's benefit. Click here for more information
