Agriculture
The following programs are provided by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA), and provide assistance to needy farmers and ranchers. The USDA
leads the Federal anti-hunger effort with school lunch and breakfast programs, and is the country’s
largest conservation agency for soil, water, and wildlife on private lands.
Established in 1862 by
President Abraham Lincoln, the USDA is responsible for the safety of the nations’ meat, poultry and
egg products as well as providing safe drinking water to rural America.
